As we turned onto US-40, Dan was waiting to ride with us for a while! Dan did this ride in 2009 and we've become Facebook friends so it was fun to meet him in person and ride and chat for a while! Very nice of him particularly to come out on a wet day when it would have been easier to stay home and stay dry. Thanks for coming out Dan - definitely one of the better parts of the day!
A wet selfie
And a wet Dan - but notice he's smiling!
Today we passed through Philadelphia, Cleveland, Charlottesville, Dublin, Cambridge, and I also passed a sign showing a turnoff for Ogden. I wasn't sure where I was! But I knew I was wet. Through and through. After Dan left, I rode mostly alone up to the sag stop, passing some riders occasionally. The sag stop was quick - just shoved some food in and continued on. No reason to hang around and get wetter and colder! I joined up with a small group and rode the rest of the way in with them. No pictures, just more wet. Looked like some good places for ice cream that we passed up. Had it been different weather it would have been a different ride. We also passed through a town - can't remember which one - where James Whitcomb Riley lived. I remember my Grandma Bro quoting me his poetry and I have read a biography of his as well. Maybe Dan can remind me which town. Anyway, would have been fun to stop there but it just became a day to keep going and get out of the rain ASAP. We made it into and through Richmond, to the motel, checked in, showered and got warm and dry. Then food.
Domino's delivers!! Memphis bbq chicken pizza.
We made quick work of that. When I got a text from Patty asking if I'd eaten, I told her I could still do a shake if she wanted to go across the road to Steak N Shake. She was willing, so was I, had a strawberry shake. Got a new chain put on my bike at mechanics, then to Golden Corral for dinner. Still raining some. Hoping it quits by tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath. Friday weather is looking fairly promising though!
