Fiona thinks it's cool that we fly the flag so much. She decided she'd like to buy this house. The plan later became amended to me buying the house but having a dedicated British room for whenever she wants to come visit.
We had our first sag stop here. It was a neat spot but a bit buggy.
We were treated to more views of corn and soybean fields with occasional wheat thrown in as well. Things were fairly warm and with the humidity I just felt drippy. We stopped about mile 47 at a convenience store for a break. Pepsi and Twix. Ahh. :) And took a few moments to clean the bikes.
Poor Al!
A while later we came upon Rick who was changing the first of what would be two flat tires for the day. Rick's had a bad time with flats!
The van came by and everyone pitched in to help. Except me. I was checking to see if I had cell service. ;) Or something like that.
Our second sag stop was at the fire house in Cisco.
Don't I just look like I'm melting? We stopped for lunch about 10 miles later in Monticello. Pizza Hut looked like a nice change so we stopped in and caught a bit of Wimbledon while inhaling a bbq chicken pizza. After leaving Monticello we were out on some farm roads that were fairly smooth and pretty deserted and it made for some nice cycling. We could cruise along together side by side and just enjoy it. As we made one turn, a white tailed deer with two fawns emerged from the trees and ran across the road. Would have made a great photo but they didn't stick around.
As we came into town we passed a Kraft factory, then into the motel for a shower, some food, route rap, and off to Chili's for dinner.
A red sun setting in the west was as close as we got to fireworks. We heard some going off later and looked out our window but couldn't see them. Sleep took priority!
